  • Book Categories and Authors

The shop has many thousands of books in many different categories.  If you like books we are sure you will find something of interest. Below is a list of categories we currently have on our shelves.  We are refining this list in response to customer requests.

We wish to develop the shop to provide both quality books with high quality service to the community.

    The Database Project

The Fiction  and Crime and Thriller Shelves have been scanned and databases constructed.  They can be found under the Crime and Thriller  and General Fiction categories. If a book is listed it was on the shelves at the time of scanning. It may have been sold and other books may have been added to the shelves because our sales and stock systems are not able to control our inventory at present.

Our goal is to finish scanning all categories held in the shop and then to rescan each section to update our stock position. This means there will be errors in what is available until we can develop a full inventory management system which deducts sales from our stock levels.

This is a staged development with the goal to sell directly online as well as in the shop. Ultimately we plan to have all books listed on the database with integrated inventory management to improve the level of service offered to customers.

Because of limited shelf space we are not able to display all books in the shop. If you do not see what you are looking for please ask. For example, text books are not nomally displayed but we do have a collection on display at present because it is the start of the school year. Otherwise they will be in the store room and you can ask our volunteers for them.

    Science Fiction

We are currently sorting and classifying a science fiction collection for sale on Ebay or by Auction. This includes early Sciece Fiction magazines from the thirties onwards, and many classic authors.

A sample of the Science fiction is currently on offer through liveauctioneers.com on Sunday 25th March 2012.

More information can be found under the Science fiction Category.

    Collectable Books

Collectable books with higher value will be promoted on the web site, and through Ebay and auctions.  They may also be held separately to protect them from damage. One we discovered is the Limited edition number 245 of 1000 copies of Norman Lindsay's Oil Paintings. It is valued from $600 to $1000 and can be seen on request.. See the Collectables section for more information.

Mills and Boon will also be kept in the storeroom and will be offered at Book Fairs.  A few copies may  be on the trolleys at the front of the shop. If you are interested in these books please ask.

Magazines are predominantly on the trolleys at the front of the shop.
